The PGA of America will announce the captain of the U.S. team for the 2025 Ryder Cup on Tuesday.

It's a highly anticipated revelation for the PGA Tour, which is already months behind its usual schedule for announcing the American captain for the biennial competition.

Tiger Woods was the organization's first choice for the job, but Woods has said repeatedly in recent months that he was unsure if he could devote the time and energy required for the role given his other commitments, including as a member of the PGA Tour's board of directors.

In interviews with other candidates, the PGA named former caddie and current NBC Sports anchor John Wood as team manager, responsible for selecting, recruiting and coordinating players.

Matt Kuchar, Webb Simpson and Stewart Cink are also reportedly on the short list of potential captains.

The European team has already announced that Luke Donald will resume his role after a successful captaincy last autumn in Rome.

The 2025 Ryder Cup, scheduled for September 26-28, will be held at Bethpage Black for the first time.

PGA of America Chairman John Lindert will make the announcement Tuesday from the NASDAQ building in New York and will be broadcast live on Golf Channel.
