Steph Curry Is Tired of Hearing Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us'

“Not Like Us” has become an anthem at this point, and is ubiquitous in pop culture as it returns to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. But not everyone is thrilled to hear Kendrick Lamar’s track vs. Drake everywhere — including Steph Curry.

After USA Basketball's 105-79 upset over Nikola Jokic and Serbia on Wednesday (July 17), the Abu Dhabi Arena DJ blasted the Mustard-produced banger, and the Golden State Warriors superstar was caught venting his frustration.

“Fuck, that song. That’s not the only song in America,” Curry pleaded. LeBron James shot back, appearing to enjoy the blast of “Not Like Us.” “I love it,” James could be heard saying at midcourt as he gathered his teammates.

Guard Anthony Edwards appears to be on LeBron's side, as he can be seen dancing to “Not Like Us” at the end of the clip.

Steph's reaction caused quite a stir on social media, as Jermaine Dupri responded by essentially saying that today's rap culture just isn't used to massive hits like “Not Like Us” dominating the landscape.

“I just saw Steph's reaction to Kendrick's record and I found it very ironic because what he feels (Pause) is a record that impacts the streets and this new generation is not used to that, I'm sure a lot of you don't understand what I'm saying,” he wrote on Instagram.

JD continued to share his thoughts in an accompanying video while walking. “The goal of hip-hop was impact, not sales, not charts — impact. The impact you could have on the streets,” he said. “That’s not the goal anymore and, to me, that’s the only reason why rap ain’t what it used to be, because n***as don’t care about having an impact on the streets anymore.”

DJ Jazzy Jeff chimed in on the topic in the comments, saying, “I think the problem is we used to have a few songs with that impact at the same time to spread it out a little bit more… because we haven't had a Lean Back or an In Da Club in so long.”

Kevin Durant defended his former teammate in an online comment, saying, “Maybe my brother just wants to hear another song.”

Curry may have been surprised to hear “Not Like Us” in the UAE. But Team USA may well make “Not Like Us” its victory anthem, as it fittingly performed the Kendrick hit after beating Canada last week.

Time will tell whether the arena DJs will continue to play the hit or listen to Curry and retire after the team's next exhibition game, which is July 22 against Germany in London.
