According to the Met Office, the UK is set to be hit by a heatwave next week, with the weather likely to improve as schools return to school for the summer.

After a cool weekend, temperatures are forecast to soar to 26C and 27C in parts of southern England on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Britain experienced its hottest day of the year on Friday, with temperatures reaching 31.9C in St James' Park in central London.

“It won't be an endless stream of sunshine, with rain expected in the north on Monday and the rest of the country on Thursday,” said Craig Snell, a meteorologist at the Met Office.

It won't be as hot as the last few days, but it will be warmer than early July. It will improve. Overall, the Southeast and South are likely to see the warmest temperatures next week.
