UK riots: More people in court over riots – including teenager with mother | UK News

A 15-year-old boy has admitted throwing pavement tiles at a crowd of people during riots in Liverpool on Saturday as he appeared in court alongside his mother.

He was one of dozens of people appearing in court today on suspicion of crimes related to riots across Britain last week.

The suspects appeared in cities including Middlesbrough, Sheffield, Liverpool, Bristol and Leeds.

Meanwhile, a Leeds man who posted on Facebook about attacks on hotels housing refugees has been found guilty of inciting racial hatred.

It is the first conviction for online posts related to the riots.

A 15-year-old boy has been left confused after appearing with his mother in Liverpool on Saturday night.

He was identified through CCTV and a TikTok video sent to police by a member of the public.

Joshua Sanderson-Kirk, prosecuting at Liverpool District Court, said: “He picked up a recently fallen pavement slab and threw it into the crowd.”

The young man, whose name and photograph cannot be released for legal reasons, was released on bail at the time and banned from entering the city

He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 17.

The riots began after three girls were stabbed to death in Southport.

The first incident took place in a Merseyside town last Tuesday, with false information circulating online that the suspect was a Muslim asylum seeker from Wales who had arrived in the UK by boat.

A 26-year-old man also appeared at Liverpool Local Court on Tuesday to admit his role in the Southport riots.

Dylan Carey, from Hindley, Greater Manchester, was arrested at Southport train station after footage emerged on social media showing him throwing a water bottle and kicking a police van.

Twenty-eight suspects are also due to appear at Teesside Local Court on Tuesday, charged with assault and other offences in connection with the riots in Middlesbrough on Sunday.

James Bullock, 20, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of violent assault after being charged with pushing a burning wheelie bin at a police officer.

John Garriside, prosecuting, told the court that Bullock “went to the location wearing gloves and a balaclava”.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man denied charges of violent assault and possession of an offensive weapon at the same court after he was accused of damaging property with a four-foot wooden pole.

Ashley Ferguson has been remanded in custody until August 27, when she is due to appear at the Crown Court.

Men deny involvement in Rotherham Hotel riot

Some of the most shocking scenes this weekend took place outside a hotel housing refugees in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

The mob began breaking windows and setting fire to the house while children were inside.

Joshua Simpson, a self-employed builder who identifies as homeless, became the first person to be convicted since the riots after pleading guilty to assaulting an emergency worker.

At Sheffield District Court, Simpson, 25, was charged with abusing a police officer by kicking the riot shield and then striking it against the officer's leg. He is due to be sentenced on August 27.

Two men, Christopher Rogers, 38, and Liam Gray, 20, have denied a charge of violent assault in connection with the same incident.

A 17-year-old boy was also charged with violent assault in connection with the hotel incident, but was not called to testify.

Meanwhile, eight people have been charged with causing chaos in Nottingham city centre over the weekend.

Seven men and one woman, aged between 18 and 46, have been charged with a range of offences including weapons offences and assaulting emergency responders.

Police said another man, Ashley Harris, 36, was due to appear at Bristol Crown Court on Saturday charged with causing violence in the city

Two of four youths charged in Bolton

Also on Sunday, two men and two youths were charged after rioting broke out in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

Dominic Stanbridge, 30, from Berkshaw, was charged with assault and was due to appear at Manchester and Salford District Court on Tuesday.

James Nelson, 18, from Horwich, was charged with criminal damage and was due to appear in the same court.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with violent assault, while another boy of the same age has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

Guilty verdict for Facebook posts

Jordan Parler, 28, also pleaded guilty to posting a Facebook message calling for attacks on a refugee hotel in Leeds on Tuesday.

The Crown Prosecution Service said the building was sealed off by officers on Saturday and at least one window was broken after a stone was thrown.

Parler was convicted of using threatening language or actions to incite racial hatred, but it is not believed he was present at the incident.

He is due to be sentenced in the Seacroft area of ​​Leeds on August 9.

In another incident, Cheshire Police arrested a 32-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman for racially abusing, intending to incite fear and violence.

Three men from Blackpool also appeared at Preston Magistrates' Court on Monday, admitting their roles in violence in the town on Saturday.

Roger Haywood, 41, pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting an emergency worker and was bailed to face sentencing on September 4.

Chalmers-Millington, 18, pleaded guilty to a charge of racially abusing a public order offence and was told not to go within 500 metres of the Metropole Hotel or on Blackpool Promenade before being sentenced on September 3.

Ben Smith, 32, was remanded in custody after admitting possession of an offensive weapon, a metal bar.

He is due to be sentenced at Preston Crown Court on September 16.
