Wi-Fi networks have been disrupted at several train stations across the UK following a cybersecurity incident.

Nineteen stations, including London Euston, Manchester Piccadilly and Birmingham New Street, had wifi service cut out on Wednesday night following the incident. It was still down on Thursday morning.

The Manchester Evening News reported that passengers who accessed the wifi at Piccadilly station were directed to a webpage titled 'We Love Europe', which contained Islamophobic messages and details of several terrorist attacks in the UK and Europe.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: We are currently dealing with a cyber security incident affecting public wifi at Network Rail managed stations. The service is provided by a third party and has been suspended while we investigate.

A Transport Police spokesperson said: “We are aware of a cyber attack affecting some Network Rail wifi services reported at approximately 5.03pm today. We are working with Network Rail to investigate the incident.

Talent, the company that provides Wi-Fi services to Network Rail, confirmed to the BBC that it was aware of the security incident and was investigating it alongside Network Rail and other stakeholders.

In London, 10 major railway stations were affected: King's Cross, London Bridge, Euston, Victoria, Cannon Street, Charing Cross, Liverpool Street, Clapham Junction, Waterloo and Paddington.

Manchester Piccadilly, Liverpool Lime Street, Birmingham New Street, Glasgow Central, Leeds City, Bristol Temple Meads, Edinburgh Waverley, Reading and Guildford stations were also affected.

Earlier this month, Transport for London suffered a cyberattack that potentially compromised the personal information of thousands of customers.

TfL services were operating as normal and were not directly affected, but the company has restricted access to real-time journey data provided to travel apps such as Citymapper and TfL Go, as well as some other customer services including trip details and photo card registration, as it deals with the breach.

A teenager from Walsall has been arrested in connection with the TfL hacking incident.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) said a 17-year-old male had been detained on suspicion of offences under the Computer Misuse Act 1990 in relation to the attack on the TfL system on September 1. The teenager was arrested last week and released on bail after being questioned by NCA officers.

TfL said it had contacted around 5,000 customers to warn them that their email and bank details may have been compromised. It is understood this is related to people who applied for refunds for travel they had made using their Oyster card.

On Monday, a TfL spokesperson said there was no set date for when passengers would be able to access their journeys and real-time travel data again. They added: “We can assure customers that they will be able to view their full journey history and amend any incomplete journeys or maximum fares.”

One important advantage is the speed at which information is sent and received. With the help of the internet, the shopping habits of many persons have drastically changed. The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
