Online retailer eBay abolishes fees for private sellers in the UK | ebay
Online retailer eBay has scrapped fees for individual sellers in nearly all categories in a bid to keep pace with fast-growing rivals like Depop and Vinted.
The move means eBays UK sellers will no longer have to pay transaction fees, except for cars, motorcycles and other vehicles.
In April this year, eBay abolished fees for private sellers of used clothing and said it was now developing the experience further.
The site says eliminating seller fees on fashion has led to double-digit increases in listings for popular items like jeans, shirts and dresses, while also keeping items out of landfill.
The move comes amid increasing competition from rival platforms such as Depop and Vinted.
Many platforms charge the buyer rather than the seller. For example, there are no fees to upload or sell items on Vinted, but buyers pay between 3% and 8% of the pre-delivery price for each item, plus a Buyer Protection fee of between 30p and 80p.
In March of this year, Depop removed its selling fee of 10% of the total sale price for all newly listed items and introduced a marketplace fee of up to 5% of the purchase price plus a fixed amount of up to £1,000 for UK buyers. 1. However, Depop sellers still have to pay payment processing fees.

eBay said on Tuesday that the move, effective immediately, means individual sellers will no longer pay so-called final value fees, or regulatory operating fees, when selling on the site.
Research on the website found that across the UK, around 294 million unused items could generate resale income of more than 9 billion, with half of households (50%) valuing their unused items between 50 and 300. It appears that it is being evaluated.
The survey found that nearly a quarter of households (24%) were purchasing more than 500 items, with the most common categories including adult clothing, DVDs, CDs and gadgets.
It was reported that business picked up last year when eBay's German site lowered its selling fees. As a result, not only did more people start selling on the site, the company claimed, but more than 250,000 German sellers started buying and ended up buying twice as much as non-selling buyers.
A consumer survey conducted in August found that the majority of people (56%) sold items they no longer use to make money, and almost half (47%) said it was more sustainable than throwing items away. 55% want to free up space in their home and 23% are selling items to finance a new purchase.
Kirsty Keoghan, General Manager at eBay UK, said: Eliminating selling commissions across categories is designed to provide buyers with access to broader and deeper inventory while providing a simplified and streamlined experience for sellers.

Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence.
