eBay UK announces you can now sell for free in all categories
From today, eBay UK is abolishing selling fees for individual sellers. New features include simplified listings, eBay balances, simple shipping, and local to make selling easier and safer. The study found that approximately 294 million unused items could generate $9 billion in resale revenue.[1]
eBay UK today announced that it is abolishing fees for private sellers in all categories except Automotive (cars, motorcycles and vehicle listings). This means that private sellers no longer pay final value fees or regulatory administration fees when selling on eBay.
eBay UK introduced free selling in the fashion category earlier this year and is now further developing the experience to foster an easier and safer selling platform. These new features include:
Simplified Selling: Sellers can list items across multiple categories in minutes using AI-generated descriptions and photo enhancement tools along with guidance on best pricing and shipping options. Simple Shipping: Currently rolling out across a variety of categories, this service provides tracking and full shipping services to sellers at competitive prices, prepaid by the buyer for a simple and safe shipping experience. Local: eBay Local allows shoppers to find nearby items available for in-person pickup, all protected by the eBay Money Back Guarantee. Your seller listings will increase your visibility to local buyers along with an easy and secure payment process. eBay Balance: Starting in mid-October, this new feature will allow sellers to use their earnings to shop on eBay, promote listings, purchase shipping labels, and withdraw available funds.
Kirsty Keoghan, GM of eBay UK, said eBay is constantly improving its marketplace experience to give customers what they want. Eliminating selling commissions across categories is designed to give buyers access to broader and deeper inventory while providing a simplified and streamlined experience for sellers.
Improving the marketplace experience for both sellers and buyers
After eBay Germany abolished selling fees last year, C2C transaction volume in Germany returned to positive growth, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars more GMV compared to its previous trajectory. And not only did more people start selling on eBay, but more than 250,000 sellers started buying and ended up buying twice as much as non-selling buyers, showing how free sales are driving overall growth. Since launching free fashion sales and AI-powered listings in April this year, eBay UK has already seen positive results, with listings for popular items such as jeans, shirts and dresses growing by double digits.
eBay is further supporting its community of hundreds of thousands of business sellers with new exclusive features. This includes enhanced seller protections and free 1:1 support through the Seller Clinic, giving sellers easy access to growth support. Along with existing programs like Pro-Trader and Start-up Scale-up, business sellers have access to a suite of custom tools to help scale their business.
Uncovering the hidden value of UK homes There are around 294 million unused items in homes across the country.[2]The estimated resale potential to be unlocked is over 9 billion. Half of households (50%) rate their unused items between 50 and 300. Almost a quarter (24%) of UK households own more than 500 items. The most commonly unused items in UK homes include adult clothing (44%), DVDs and/or CDs (33%) and technology items (27%).
The majority (56%) of people sell items they no longer use to make money, and almost half (47%) believe it is more sustainable than throwing items away. Many people want to increase the space they have at home (55%), and almost a quarter (23%) of households are selling items to finance new purchases.[3] In addition to free selling, eBay's new features make it easier than ever to sell unwanted items.
Disclaimer:*Final value fees, regulatory operating fees and insertion fees for assets and line items are not waived.
