Ryder also said that initial assessments indicate that all of the missiles fired were actually launched from Iran, not from proxy states, and that Iran had indeed planned to cause significant damage in Israel.

“You don't throw that many missiles at a target without intending to hit something,” Ryder said. “Just like last time, their intention is to cause destruction. And so, fortunately…Israel has very significant air defense capabilities, and the United States, of course, has also played a role in helping on this forehead.”

Early indications, Ryder said, are that there was minimal damage on the ground and that Israel was able to successfully defend itself against the Iranian attack.

Ryder also said no U.S. personnel were injured in the Iranian missile attack.

Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III communicated with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant at least twice today, before and during the attack, Ryder said.

“He reaffirmed the United States' unwavering commitment to the defense of Israel and emphasized that the United States remains well positioned in the Middle East region to protect American forces and defend Israel from threats of Iran and Iranian-backed terrorist organizations,” Ryder said. said.
