The UK is bracing for another storm as Hurricane Kirk's tail heads across the Atlantic towards us.

This comes as separate warnings for tornadoes were issued for southern England, from Devon to East Anglia and the South Midlands.

People living in the area could be hit by wind gusts up to 50 mph, large hail, intermittent lightning and isolated tornadoes, the Tornado and Storm Research Organization (TORRO) said in a warning that runs from now until midnight. .

Although weakened by the hurricane, even a weakened version of such a powerful weather system brings with it the potential for flooding and major disruption following Storm Boris.

The Met Office has warned of an unsettled period this week with frequent winds and rain associated with low pressure areas.

Forecasters said: The threat remains from former Hurricane Kirk, which brought very wet and windy conditions to parts of the UK, particularly the south.

Scotland and Northern Ireland are likely to get colder with showers expected from Wednesday, with the cold weather (possibly some snow in the Scottish mountains) starting to gradually move south by the weekend.

It may become more stable in some areas heading into next weekend, but details at this stage are very unreliable.

Hurricane Kirk is now heading east toward us as it circles the North Atlantic and wreaks havoc in the tropics.

With winds reaching 145mph, the storm was a major Category 4 storm, but no Met Office weather warnings are currently in place for the UK.

Chris Bulmer, Chief Meteorologist at the Met Offices, said: Many details remain to be worked out about the exact path and timing of the system.

Across the UK, parts of England and Wales appear to be most at risk of heavy rain and strong winds on Wednesday and Thursday.
