Parts of the UK have been hit by strong winds and heavy rain as Storm Ashley swept through, the first named storm of the season.

The National Weather Service said the storm was expected to bring winds of up to 80 miles per hour and heavy rain in some areas, potentially causing injury and risk to life.

A yellow warning for gale force winds has been in place for all of Scotland and Northern Ireland, as well as parts of north-west England and Wales from 3am on Sunday. It lasts until midnight.
