Toys 'R' Us to open standalone store at Norridge Mall – NBC Chicago

The holiday shopping season is fast approaching, and Chicago-area kids of the '80s and '90s will get a chance to relive some memories as an iconic toy chain opens its first standalone store in a suburban mall .

Toys “R” Us, which went bankrupt in 2018 before relaunching in 2021, has operated primarily as pop-ups in Macy's stores across the country since the brand's re-emergence.

Although Toys “R” Us has a presence in several Chicago-area Macy's stores, the beloved toy store will open its first standalone store in the region this weekend at Harlem Irving Plaza in suburban Norridge.

The 10,000 square foot store will welcome Geoffrey the Giraffe during a grand opening ceremony on October 26, with celebrations continuing throughout the weekend.

In-store activities this weekend are expected to include face painting and balloon twisting, as well as goody bags for the store's first 50 guests.

The store will officially open at 10 a.m. Saturday and is located at 4104 North Harlem Avenue in Norridge.
