Who is Kimberly Guilfoyle, Trump's chosen American ambassador to Greece?

US President-elect Donald Trump's nominations for his second term followed a handful of themes. Many of them are longtime loyalists, or former Fox News hosts – or are part of or related to his extended family.

Kimberly Guilfoyle, 55, checks all three boxes. The former Fox host was named U.S. ambassador to Greece on Tuesday.

She is a staunch Trump supporter who worked in support of his presidential campaigns.

The former lawyer is also engaged to Donald Trump Jr, although tabloids recently spotted the president's eldest son holding hands with another woman, making the current status of their relationship unclear.

Ms. Guilfoyle was previously married to Gavin Newsom, the governor of California and a member of the rival Democratic Party.

In announcing his nomination, Trump Sr called Ms Guilfoyle a “close friend and ally”.

“Her extensive experience and leadership in law, media and politics, along with her keen intellect, make her extremely qualified to represent the United States and safeguard its interests abroad,” Trump said.

“Kimberly is perfectly positioned to foster strong bilateral relations with Greece, advancing our interests on issues ranging from defense cooperation to trade and economic innovation.”

Writing on social media herself, Guilfoyle thanked Trump for the nomination, saying she looked forward to “implementing Trump's agenda, supporting our Greek allies, and ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity “.

His nomination is one of the appointments that will require confirmation from U.S. senators.

Before spending more than a decade at Fox, Ms. Guilfoyle was a former prosecutor in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

After leaving the network, she joined the Trump campaign.

Ms. Guilfoyle's appointment marks the latest in a series of appointments of one-time or current Fox hosts or contributors. They include Pete Hegseth, the president-elect's nominee for secretary of defense, Trump's nominee for transportation secretary who once co-hosted a show on Fox, and Janette Nesheiwat, Trump's pick for the job general surgeon.

Although Ms. Guilfoyle's exact status in the Trump family is not entirely clear, she is not the first relative Trump has named to a high-level position.
