NATO chief Mark Rutte said the US-led transatlantic alliance was not ready to deal with the threats it would face from Russia in the coming years and called for a shift towards a war mentality, with much higher defense spending.
Russia is preparing for a long-term confrontation, with Ukraine and with us, Rutte said in a speech in Brussels, adding that the alliance is not ready for what awaits it in the next four to five years.
“It’s time to shift to a war mentality and boost our defense production and spending.”

12/12/2024December 12, 2024Christmas ceasefire proposal negotiated by Orban rejected by Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin supports Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's efforts to achieve a Christmas ceasefire in Ukraine and an exchange of prisoners of war, the Kremlin said.
Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine has killed tens of thousands, displaced millions and sparked the biggest crisis in relations between Moscow and the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
“The Russian side fully supports Orban's efforts to find a peaceful settlement and resolve humanitarian issues related to the prisoner exchange,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy rejected the plan, while criticizing Orban for undermining Western unity.

12/12/2024December 12, 2024US President-elect Trump calls Ukraine's use of US missiles in Russia 'crazy'
US President-elect Donald Trump said Thursday he “disagrees very vehemently” with Joe Biden's policy change allowing Ukraine to fire US-made missiles at Russia.
“It's crazy what's happening,” Trump said, “why are we doing this? We're just escalating this war and making it worse. This shouldn't have been allowed to happen.”
President Biden lifted the ban last month, when North Korea sent some 15,000 troops to the front lines to support its ally Russia.
Trump, also a fan of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has repeatedly said he will end the war as soon as he takes office, but has given no indication of how he plans to do so.
After meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris on Saturday, Trump said far too many people were dying in the war Putin started by invading neighboring Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
Trump said: “I speak to both sides. It's really a win-win for both sides to get things done.”

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
