Reform UK would be 'delighted' by Elon Musk's donation | political news

Reform UK will be “delighted” to receive a donation from billionaire Elon Musk, according to Reform UK’s deputy chief executive Richard Tice.

He told Sky News political correspondent Serena Barker-Singh that Musk recognizes that reform is “the party of common sense”.

His comments come days after Reform UK's treasurer revealed he had spoken to Elon Musk.

There were previously suggestions the tech giant could be donating millions of pounds to the party.

“Honestly, both Nick [Candy, Reform UK treasurer] And Mr Musk recognizes that we are a common-sense party that can get Britain back on track,” Mr Tice said.

“Whether it’s about immigration or whether it’s about growing the economy through smart regulation, not stupid regulation that cuts taxes and massive amounts of wasteful and incompetent public sector spending.”

Labor is reportedly considering a cap on political donations and pledged in its manifesto to “protect democracy by strengthening rules on donations to political parties.”

Mr. Tice was skeptical that the restrictions would actually be implemented, but said the party would accept it if Mr. Musk could legally donate to the reforms.

Current rules require individuals and businesses to be based or registered in the UK to donate more than £500 to a UK political party.

“Obviously we would be delighted,” he said.

“It is a fantastic endorsement of our policy to save Britain and get it moving again.”

But Conservative Party co-chairman Lord Johnson said Nigel Farage risked becoming a “puppet of a foreign politician” if he accepted donations from Musk.

Mr Musk denied rumors of a possible £80 million donation but expressed support for UK reforms on the X social media platform.

He responded “yes” to a post saying the party would win the next general election.

Mr Farage, the party leader, also denied reports that Mr Musk could donate £80m, calling it “a story not based on fact”.

“Elon Musk is very supportive of what Reform is trying to do, and he supports me personally. And we have a good relationship with him, and Nick has a good relationship with him,” he said.

“He is giving us political support. We have not been asked or offered any donations at this stage.”
