US Junior Select team wins 2024 World Junior A Challenge title with 7-4 win over Sweden

American goalkeeper Caleb Heil (Victoria, Minn.) stopped Sweden's Arvid Drott from scoring just over five minutes into the second half when he snuffed out a two-on-one chance. Heil's efforts in front of the net were rewarded moments later, as Zellers scored his second of the night at 5:22 following a pass from Ben Kevan (Fairfield, Calif.).

Sweden's Morgan Anderberg cut the United States' lead to 3-1 at 8:58 with an unassisted goal. Team USA's advantage was cut to one 2:06 later when Theo Stockselius scored a power play goal for Sweden.

Ryan Rucinski (Broadview Heights, Ohio) scored the second American goal of the night on the power play at 4:46 of the final period to extend his team's lead to two. Rucinski scored on a pass from Ryker Lee (Wilmette, Ill.), who collected his first point of the tournament on the play.

Jakob Ihs-Wozniak responded immediately with a goal for Sweden at 6:59. Ivar Stenberg tied the match 4-4 at 11:25.

Finn McLaughlin (Arlington Heights, Ill.) regained the lead for the United States 1:21 later, as he drove to the net and buried the puck behind Love Härenstam at 12:46. Empty-net goals from John Stout (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Luke Osburn (Plymouth, Mich.) sealed the victory for the United States and contributed to the final score of 7-4.

A delayed broadcast of tonight's championship game will air on NHL Network tomorrow (Dec. 16) at 2 p.m. ET.
