China tells Britain to stop raising questions about spying

China's embassy in London has warned Britain not to stir up trouble, blaming lawmakers' twisted thinking over claims that a Chinese businessman linked to Prince Andrew is a communist spy.

The embassy spokesman also accused British lawmakers of being arrogant and brazen over the claims.

“We urge the British side to immediately stop creating disturbances and manipulating anti-China politics, and stop actions that undermine normal people-to-people exchanges between China and the United States,” the spokesperson added.

Tuesday's comments came after a judge accepted the identity of a 50-year-old Chinese national who had been banned from Britain on national security grounds as Tengbo Yang.

UK Security Secretary Dan Jarvis welcomed the court's decision to uphold the ban on sheep and warned the case did not exist in a vacuum.

He told lawmakers that Britain faces ongoing efforts by countries including China, Russia and Iran to undermine Britain's security.

Yang's anonymity order was considered at a hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice on Monday as lawmakers threatened to use parliamentary privilege to appoint Yang to the House of Commons.

Judge Singh dismissed the case, saying the risk posed by Lee had been reasonably assessed in line with MI5's remit and the warnings were precautionary.

He added that there has yet to be an authoritative investigation into whether Mr. Lee engaged in criminal activity or other misconduct.

These tensions represent a potential setback to the Labor government's efforts to improve relations with China. Prime Minister Keir Starmer met President Xi Jinping last month and pledged to build a consistent, sustainable and respectful relationship in the first meeting between the two leaders since 2018.

MI5 claimed that Mr Yang was a member of the Chinese Communist Party working for the United Front Work Department, which aims to build influence overseas and gather intelligence.
