A mix of snow, rain and strong winds is set to hit the UK, causing major disruption over New Year's Eve and most of next week.

The Met Office issued several weather warnings between Monday and Thursday, with at least one warning affecting almost every corner of the country.

Met Office chief forecaster Andy Page said the forecast for the coming week was complex and urged people to check the forecast regularly to update their plans.

He said almost the entire UK would be under at least one weather warning over the next week.

Due to these varied and complex weather conditions, warning patterns are likely to change or expand in some areas.

There will be lots of celebrations and people moving about over the next few days, so we urge everyone to keep checking the forecast so they can update their plans.

Very strong winds of up to 60mph are expected to blow across England and Wales throughout the day on Wednesday, with gusts of up to 75mph around coastal areas and hills, according to the Met Office.

A gale warning is in effect from 9am Wednesday until 6am Thursday.
