A new yellow warning for heavy rain has been issued for parts of England this evening, with wet and windy weather leading to the cancellation of New Year's Eve celebrations across the country.

The outdoor event scheduled as part of Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations on December 31 will not take place and the event on the 30th has also been cancelled.

A spokesman said events in the Scottish capital's city center, including fireworks at the castle, could not go ahead “for public safety reasons” due to “high winds and inclement weather”.

Meanwhile, the organizer of the fireworks display scheduled for Blackpool announced that the display had also been canceled due to weather issues.

At least 11 routes were affected and 18 trains were canceled on Tuesday morning, according to the ScotRail website.

Network Rail said it had closed the Highland Main Line at Kingussie “due to further heavy rain overnight”.
