Britain is urging British households to stock up on six essential foods from supermarkets this week to prepare for bad weather.

A series of yellow and amber weather warnings have now been issued for the New Year period due to a combination of heavy rain, strong winds, ice and snow forecast.

The Met Office is warning people to prepare for worse weather over the next few days, with the entire UK set to receive at least one weather warning this week.

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to hit parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England from now until Thursday, with up to 5cm of snow expected to fall in northern parts of the country in the new year.

Snack foods such as potato chips, crackers, and cookies in sealed packages

After a heavy snowfall or blizzard, snow may remain for several days, according to the company. Being out of touch at your local grocery store can be made even worse by prolonged power outages, leaving you with only a few hours to safely enjoy what's left in your fridge.
