The New Year is being celebrated around the world, including in London, where fireworks went ahead despite events being canceled across the UK due to bad weather.

But the UK is now facing up to four weather warnings for New Year's Day, which will see much of the country hit by strong winds, rain and, in some areas, snow.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of north-west England until 9am on New Year's Day, warning of a risk of damaging flooding.

An amber warning for rain is in place for the wider region, including Wales, until 11am, while a yellow wind warning is in place for Wales and southern England, with strong winds expected until 3pm.

Most of northern Scotland is also under a snow and ice warning until 9am on Thursday, with rain likely to turn to snow and disrupt travel.

There are 178 flood warnings in place across the UK, including 137 in England, 28 in Scotland and 13 in Wales, according to the Environment Agency, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and Natural Resources Wales.

Despite heavy rain and strong winds forcing the cancellation of many celebrations last night, London's fireworks display dazzled as thousands flocked to Big Ben despite the harsh weather.

More than 170 flood warnings in place across England

The Met Office has issued 178 flood warnings across England, Scotland and Wales as the UK is set to be hit by heavy rain over the New Year.

The flood warning is the second most serious warning in the three-level warning system shared by the three agencies. This means flooding is expected in the area and residents are advised to take action now.

There are also 160 lowest level flood warnings in place. This includes 112 in England, 39 in Wales and 9 in Scotland.

Heavy rain is set to hit parts of England from 2025 after New Year's Eve celebrations were canceled across the country.

An amber warning for heavy rain has been issued for parts of north-west England until 9am on New Year's Day.

The Met Office warning extends from Settle in the Yorkshire Dales through Preston and parts of the Peak District.

The warning states that heavy rain could cause disruption, including flooding, in some areas, with more than 10cm of rain likely to fall in some areas.

Winds of up to 60mph are expected across most of England and Wales throughout the day on Wednesday, with gusts of up to 75mph around coastal areas and hills, according to the Met Office.

Travel disruptions are likely to occur on roads and rail, particularly across Grampian, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Highlands & Eilean Siar, when rain changes to snow on New Year's Day. The Korea Meteorological Administration said.
