The next nuclear talks between Iran and France, Britain and Germany will be held in Geneva in January, Iran's semi-official ISNA news agency reported, citing Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi.

Gharibabadi said new talks between Iran and three European countries would be held in Geneva on January 13.

Iran held talks with three European countries in November about its disputed nuclear program. These discussions, the first since the U.S. presidential election, come after Tehran was angered by a European-backed resolution accusing Tehran of poor cooperation with the U.N. nuclear watchdog.

IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi said in an interview with Reuters in December that Iran was dramatically accelerating uranium enrichment to 60% purity, which is close to 90% weapons-grade purity.

Tehran asserts its right to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and has consistently denied any ambitions to develop nuclear weapons capabilities.

In 2015, Iran reached an agreement with world powers, including the United States, to curb its nuclear program due to concerns about its potential development of nuclear weapons.

But in 2018, then-Donald Trump's administration tore up Iran's 2015 nuclear deal with six major powers and reimposed harsh sanctions on Iran, which prompted Tehran to rebuild its enriched uranium stockpile and refine it to a higher fissile yield.
