More snow and ice is expected across England on Thursday as NHS boards warn people not to go out early in the morning and late at night when conditions are more dangerous.
Two new weather warnings came into effect on Thursday afternoon for northeast Scotland and parts of Scotland, England and Northern Ireland, and Britons were told to expect icy conditions and travel delays until at least Friday morning.
A three-day yellow snow warning is soon to follow, with most of England, southern Scotland and Wales being told to prepare for snow from noon on Saturday until Monday morning.
Travel delays and power outages are likely in the hardest-hit areas of the Midlands, Wales and northern England, where between 5cm and 30cm of snow could accumulate.
The NHS Black Country Integrated Care Board warned of the potential for slips and falls, saying: “Avoid going out early when the frost is thick or late at night when it is dark.”
It comes as Greater Manchester Police declared a major incident after horrific scenes of flooding were seen in Manchester on New Year's Day.

Older people may be at risk of death due to cold waves due to criticism of fuel cost limits
An impending cold snap could put older people at risk of death, Britain's Department of Health and Safety has warned, as a charity criticizes the government's decision to limit winter fuel payments.
UKHSA has issued a cold weather health alert from 12pm on Thursday until January 8. This means deaths are likely to increase, especially among people over 65 and those with existing health problems.
Caroline Abrahams, director of Age UK, said the government's decision to restrict winter fuel allowances to only the poorest pensioners would come into sharp relief from the cold spell.
Mr Abrahams said the charity had already been contacted by older people worried about what to do when this moment comes.
From this winter, only people receiving pension credit or certain other benefits will receive winter fuel bills, while more than nine million others will be stripped of their benefits.
We urge older people to do everything they can to stay warm, even if it means risking spending more on heating bills than they think they can afford, charity chiefs have said. Your energy company has a duty to help you if you are struggling, and your local council may also be able to help you.

2024 will be the fourth warmest year on record for the UK as the climate warms, the Met Office said.
The Met Office said last year was the fourth warmest on record for the UK, another clear example of how our climate is now changing.
According to provisional figures for 2024 published by the Met Office, the UK's average temperature was 9.78C, 0.64C higher than the 1991-2020 average, making it the fourth warmest year behind 2022, 2023 and 2014.
Although the Met Office said Britain's weather was variable, long-term trends showed clear evidence of how the country's global climate was warming.
