2025 is off to a very chilly start. Britain is bracing for three days of freezing temperatures this weekend, with weather warnings issued across the country. That means heavy snow and freezing rain is coming soon.

In addition to the Met Office warning, the UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow cold weather health warning. So whether you're planning to head out for a snowball fight or hibernate for 72 hours, here's everything you need to know about the weather this weekend and how to stay safe.

When will it snow in England?

Most of the snow will fall starting at noon tomorrow (Saturday, January 4th).

Where will it snow?

Snow is expected to fall across almost all of Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland over the next three days. A yellow weather warning has already been issued for most of Scotland, including Glasgow. Another publication is published tomorrow covering major cities including Manchester, Newcastle, London, Birmingham and Cardiff.

However, the white stuff is unlikely to be seen in some coastal areas of the UK. These include Cornwall, Brighton, Portsmouth, Exeter, Norfolk and Suffolk.

What does a yellow weather warning mean?

The Bureau of Meteorology issues a yellow weather warning if ice and snow pose a risk of power outages, travel delays, disruptions to mobile phone communications, injuries from slippery surfaces and loss of connectivity in rural communities.

Where is snow most affected?

The heaviest snowfall will fall across the country. Up to 30cm could fall in the highlands of central and northern Wales, and up to 40cm in parts of the Pennines.

The yellow weather warning will remain in place for Scotland, Northumberland and Cumbria until Monday afternoon.

Will it stop snowing?

The white stuff isn't likely to stick to the south of the country. The Met Office said: 'There is some uncertainty, but low levels of snow, particularly across southern and eastern England, will probably be somewhat transient before the rain arrives.'

However, some snow may remain in parts of Wales, the Midlands and northern England.
