LONDON – Heavy snowfall and freezing rain have caused widespread disruption across Britain, halting flights at several major airports and rendering many major roads in northern England impassable.

With bad weather expected again on Sunday, there are fears many rural communities could be placed under lockdown if up to 40 centimeters (15 inches) of snow accumulates above 300 meters (985 feet).
