Britain's cheapest supermarket revealed

Aldi has been named the UK's cheapest supermarket in 2024, with the average household basket full of groceries and other essentials costing just 100.29 in December.

Research has shown that shoppers at the German discount store saved an average of 393 over the course of a year compared to customers at Waitrose, the most expensive alternative.

Lidl came in second place, with the same shopping list costing $1.19 (101.48) more if you use its supermarket loyalty scheme Lidl Plus, and $1.27 (101.56) more if you don't, according to consumer group Which?.
