The five living US presidents, Clinton, Bush, Obama, Biden and Trump, have a rare reunion

Today, at Jimmy Carter's state funeral at the Washington National Cathedral, all five living U.S. presidents, current and former, were in attendance: Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

Clinton, Bush, Obama and Trump were seated in the second row of the cathedral and, before the service began, Obama and Trump were photographed speaking. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden were the last to arrive and sat next to Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff in the front row.

Not all past and current presidents have been in the same place since George HW Bush's state funeral in December 2018. There is a chance they will meet again in just ten days, during the president's inauguration Donald Trump.

At the funeral of former First Lady Rosalynn Carter in 2023, only President Biden and former President Clinton were present, but all five former and current first ladies were present: Jill Biden, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Melania Trump and Laura Bush. Only four people were present at Carter's funeral today; Michelle Obama did not attend Carter's funeral.

After Carter's death, President Biden and all four former presidents wrote tributes to the late centenarian. Biden is set to deliver a eulogy at the service today.
