Some US states are not operating Dunkin donuts due to temporary supply shortage
Dunkin's discontinued its branded Donuts years ago, but now, at least in Nebraska, New Mexico and some other states, it doesn't have donuts on shelves either.
Dunkin's Nebraska stores in Omaha, Lincoln and Grand Island all had no donuts in their registers Thursday and Friday.
Businesses posted signs on their doors and drive-through kiosks informing customers that the pastries were unavailable due to a manufacturing error.
Dunkin' customers were stunned when stores didn't have donuts. P.A.
Some places offered Munchkins, or donut holes, on Friday.
Tyler Raikar, of Omaha, stopped at a Dunkin in west Omaha early Friday after a night shift as a phlebotomist, looking for coffee and a chocolate cake donut.
What? No donuts! she exclaimed when told there was none. It's tragic!
The trip wasn't a total loss, she said, because she was more interested in coffee.
Still, she was a little disappointed that she couldn't get a donut.
I hope they get them soon, she said.
Employees posted signs on doors and drive-through kiosks telling customers that pastries were not available. P.A.
Across Albuquerque, New Mexico and surrounding suburbs, store after store confirmed there was a donut drought.
Some employees attributed this to a supply chain problem and others simply said delivery trucks were arriving without the merchandise the chain is most famous for.
Employees said they hope stocks will be replenished by next week.
A manager at Dunkin's west Omaha location said Friday she could not provide more information about the cause of the shortage, citing orders from Dunkins headquarters.
The director, who did not give her name, said the shortage was a national problem.
But checks in other areas, including St. Joseph, Mo., and Boston, where Dunkin's has a cult-like following, found no shortage of the sweet treats.
A Dunkin' manager in Omaha said the shortage is a nationwide problem. P.A.
Dunkin is one of the world's largest coffee and donut brands, with more than 13,200 restaurants
The company, founded in Massachusetts in 1950, was acquired for $11.3 billion in 2020 by Atlanta private equity firm Inspire Brands, which also owns Arbys and Buffalo Wild Wings.
Jack DAmato, a spokesman for Inspire Brands, said there was a problem with donuts from a single supplier that was affecting stores in Nebraska and some other states, although he did not name the other states.
About 4 percent of Dunkins stores in the United States were affected, he said.
Dunkin has more than 9,500 stores nationwide.
DAmato said the company was still investigating the nature of the problem and exactly how many stores were affected. But he added that the company had already started restocking some affected stores.
The shortage hasn't impacted places like Boston, where the company has a large following. P.A.
Formerly known as Dunkin Donuts, the company announced in 2018 that it was dropping Donuts from its name as part of a rebranding effort to focus more on its coffee and other beverages, which represented the majority of its sales.
Telephone and email messages to Bryce Bares, owner of several Dunkin' franchises in Nebraska, were not immediately returned.
Bares told the Omaha World-Herald that some Dunkin' stores were receiving products from suppliers that were substandard and he would not serve them to customers.
The company's owner told the newspaper that supply partners have corrected the problem and its Nebraska locations should soon be offering donuts again.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily.
