2025 is off to a particularly chilly start for the UK. The new year started with weather warnings and sub-zero temperatures across the country.

However, the bitter cold wave looks set to end within the next 24 hours, with the Met Office predicting temperatures to rise further early this week.

The arrival of milder air in the North West will mark the end of a particularly cold winter, after days of frost and snow and temperatures dropping to minus 18.7C in some areas.

Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst told The Independent: The cold front will ease over the next 24 hours.

It was still very cold last night, with a low of -13.9 degrees in Kinbraith, Scotland. It was also cold in the south-east of England. It was -8 degrees Celsius in Cavendish, so there's still some pretty chilly weather ahead.
