Parts of the UK will be up to 19C (66F) warmer tonight than last night as the cold spell begins to ease.

The town of Kinbrace in the Scottish Highlands fell to -13.9C (7F) on Saturday night, but is expected to reach around 5C (41F) well above freezing on Monday.

The average low temperature in northern Scotland at this time of year is around 0.3C.

Also on Saturday, Cavendish in Suffolk recorded -7.8C (18F) and Hawarden Airport in Wales fell to -2.2C (28F), the Met Office said.

Sunday morning brought freezing temperatures with fog that was expected to take some time to clear.

The Department of Health and Safety has extended its cold weather health warning for the whole of England until Tuesday, but temperatures are expected to rise.

Milder air will move in on Sunday night, and after some time temperatures in Northern Ireland and western Scotland could reach as high as 9-10C on Monday morning.

Most other areas are expected to experience temperatures between -1C and -3C. Still chilly, but warmer than recent nights.

Temperatures on Tuesday are expected to be 11 to 12 degrees in the north and 8 to 9 degrees in the south.
