The proposed changes, tabled in Parliament today (January 16), would provide flexibility to increase the maximum fees that can be charged for a range of immigration and nationality products and services, including:

The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) fee will increase to 16.

Sponsorship fee certificate increased to 525

Number of naturalized British citizens increases to 1,605

The number of naturalized British overseas territory citizens increased to 1,070.

The changes to ETA, sponsorship certificates and nationality products are expected to generate an additional $269 million annually.

As part of the Government's transformation plans, ETA will provide a faster and safer digital immigration system for the millions of people who cross UK borders every year.

The introduction of ETA is consistent with the border security approach taken by many other countries, including the United States and Australia.

However, following feedback from the aviation industry, the government has agreed a temporary exemption for passengers who cannot transit airside and pass UK border controls.

The move will primarily affect Heathrow and Manchester airports, which are currently the only airports in the UK to offer transfer facilities. The exemption will continue to be reviewed.

The bill enacted today will be debated in Congress and must be approved by both houses. If approved, the proposed new fees will be introduced by amending the Immigration and Nationality (Fees) Regulations 2018, a separate bill, as parliamentary time allows.
