USMNT vs Venezuela: Match recap and highlights from January 18 international friendly

Fort Lauderdale (January 18, 2025) – A trio of impressive goals from two rookies and an Olympian lifted a young United States men's national team to a resounding 3-1 victory over Venezuela in a friendly match Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The United States opened its annual January camp with a confident and decisive performance in front of 18,008 fans at Inter Miami's Chase Stadium. Eight Americans earned their first caps and coach Mauricio Pochettino examined several prospects and rising stars while securing a fourth victory in his fifth game in charge. Midfielder Jack McGlynn (an Olympian with a previous senior appearance) and forwards Patrick Agyemang and Matko Miljevic (debutants) each scored their first USMNT goal.

This month's camp concludes in Orlando with a match on January 22 against Concacaf rival Costa Rica at Inter&Co Stadium. Kick-off time is 7 p.m. ET and the broadcast will be available on Primera's TNT, TruTV, Universo, Max, Peacock and Ftbol radio.

Since the start of the 2002 World Cup cycle, 30 men who earned their first or second USMNT caps during a winter camp have gone on to join a World Cup team. Pochettino embraced the purpose and potential of the January camps in Fort Lauderdale, starting eight first or second against Venezuela.

Goalkeeper Patrick Schulte, a 2024 Olympian and 2023 MLS champion with the Columbus Crew, earned his third USMNT nod and anchored a starting lineup of a half-dozen starters: Agyemang, Miljevic (from Miami), wingers Caden Clark and Brian Gutirrez, left back Max Arfsten and center back George Campbell.

Nineteen-year-old midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi, playing on his home turf, and McGlynn earned their second caps, while veterans Miles Robinson (the captain) and Shaq Moore provided some experience on defense.

Venezuela's lineup was slightly more experienced. Four international debutants were scattered across an XI featuring 36-year-old defender Roberto Rosales (96 caps) and goalkeeper Wuilker Ferez (41 caps), who earned the shutout in Venezuela's 3-0 win over the USMNT in a friendly match in June 2019. Cincinnati.

Ferez, who returned to hometown club Caracas FC from Frances Lens last year, showed his mettle in the opening moments. The United States earned a penalty when Agyemang was bundled out in the box by Venezuelan Daniel Pereira. Miljevic set up for the hosts, but Ferez read the third-minute shot perfectly and dropped to his left to make the save.

The disappointment did not last long for the Americans, who quickly found their feet and demonstrated their ability to build in midfield and threaten on the counterattack during the first quarter of an hour. The United States continued to maintain an advantage in the first half, but failed to find a way through, while La Vinotinto had to test Schulte from long range.

The visitors' shots didn't fall, but McGlynns did. In the 37th minute, the United States managed to regain possession after a turnover in the Venezuelan camp, and Moore drew the defense towards him by dribbling from the right. The ball bounced to Clark, who sent it to McGlynn. The 21-year-old Philadelphia Union midfielder took a touch and unleashed a 30-yard left-footed blast that beat Ferez at the right post.

The doors had opened. Less than two minutes later, Agyemang doubled the lead. The Charlotte FC striker collected a clearance that had bounced off Miljevic and raced towards the Venezuelan net. He timed his shot perfectly and beat Ferez as the keeper left his line. The Americans were buzzing and still had several good looks before halftime. Venezuelan Pereira, who plays for Austin FC, cleared the ball from his goal line in the 42nd minute.

The American assault continued after the intermission. Ferez denied Miljevic again in the 52nd, this time with a smart kick that followed excellent American interplay. He then used his knee to block a Robinson header.

Miljevic finally scored his goal in the 64th minute. The only non-MLS player on the American roster, Miljevic, just signed for Buenos Aires club Huracn, intercepted a pass in his own half, skillfully dribbled past two Venezuelans, crossed midfield and then sent McGlynn on the left. McGlynn returned the ball to the penalty area, where Miljevic brought it down and fired a low shot to the goalkeeper's right.

Pochettino made a series of substitutions in the 65th, giving USMNT debuts to Real Salt Lake midfielder Emeka Eneli and St. Louis City forward Indiana Vassilev. La Vinotinto then scored a goal in the 68th as replacement midfielder Jorge Yriarte scored on his international debut, heading cleanly home from a corner.

The young Americans saw the match end calmly (and almost added a fourth thanks to substitute Brian White), bringing the USMNT's overall record against 47th-ranked Venezuela to 4W-1L-2L. The United States now has a 2W-0D-0L record at Chase Stadium and 9W-12L-8L all-time in South Florida.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless.
