The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Friday and Saturday for the strongest winds of the winter so far.
A warning was issued for most parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland for winds of 50 to 60 mph inland and 70 to 80 mph along the coast.
They also predicted a weather bomb would fall on the UK later this week, with strong winds, heavy rain and light snow.
A weather bomb is when the pressure at the center of a low-pressure system drops rapidly over a 24-hour period, which can culminate in winds strong enough to topple trees.
The Met Office added that people could expect some damage to their buildings, including tiles flying off roofs, as well as power outages, which are likely to affect other services such as mobile phone services.
It also warned of injury and risk to life from large waves and beach material thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and private property, as well as flying debris.

This could impact road, rail, air and ferry services in the area, forecasters added.
The Korea Meteorological Administration urged people to prepare for strong winds by checking for loose items outside their homes and how they are stored to protect property and people from injury.
He advised people to check road conditions before driving and be prepared to modify their travel plans, and to prepare in advance for power outages by gathering essential items such as torches, batteries, and cell phone auxiliary batteries.
The Meteorological Administration added: If you're on the coast, watch out for large waves and stay safe in stormy weather. Even on the coast, large waves can sweep you off your feet and into the ocean. Be careful when walking near cliffs. Know your route and keep your dog on a lead. In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Forecasters have released new maps showing the powerful jet stream over the North Atlantic will return to wet, windy conditions with worsening weather.
They described an area of deep low pressure expected to pass over the north-west of England over Friday and Saturday, which will bring very strong south-easterly to south-westerly winds.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said, “The wind strength will gradually ease from the south until Saturday.”
Met Office deputy meteorologist Chris Almond said: A very deep area of low pressure will bring very uneasy and potentially destructive weather to the UK from Friday to Saturday.
In Northern Ireland and western Scotland, winds will begin to strengthen from Thursday night, with gusts expected to peak by Friday. It will be windy and rainy, making for some unpleasant weather to end the week.
We have issued a net weather warning for winds and forecast details are likely to be fine-tuned during the week in the days ahead of any impactful weather, so stay tuned to your local forecast and keep up to date with Met Office warnings.
These new weather warnings come just weeks after the small town in northern Scotland experienced its coldest January night in 15 years on January 10 after temperatures dropped to minus 18.7C.
Altnaharra, in the northernmost part of the Highlands, recorded -18.7 degrees Celsius on Friday night.
