Pete Hegseth ordered US troops to put America first and never back down in a message to the force hours after his confirmation as defense secretary.

In a press release issued by the Pentagon on Saturday after his inauguration ceremony, Hegseth wrote: “The president has given us a clear mission: to achieve peace through force. We will achieve this in three ways: by restoring the warrior ethos, by rebuilding our military, and by restoring deterrence.

Hegseth, 44, who was among the most controversial picks in President Donald Trump's Cabinet, won successful Senate confirmation on Friday with a single tie-breaking vote, cast by Vice President JD Vance.
