Greenland PM explodes Trump to talk about annexation

The outgoing Prime Minister of Greenland castigated President Donald Trump on Thursday that the potential annexation of the Massive Arctic Island by the United States would occur.

“The American president again released the idea of ​​annexing us,” said Prime Minister Mute Egede in an article on Facebook.

“Do not continue to treat us with lack of respect. Just enough,” wrote Egede.

The Prime Minister wrote that he planned to convene a meeting of presidents of all political parties in Greenland “as soon as possible” to respond to Trump's comments.

“Because this time, we have to tighten our rejection of Trump,” wrote Egede.

The Facebook message occurred a few hours after Trump again discussed the idea that the United States took control of Greenland, which is currently a territory in Denmark.

A journalist asked Trump: “What is your vision of the potential annex to Greenland.”

“I think it will happen,” replied Trump at a meeting at the White House with NATO secretary general, Mark Rutte.

Trump said the United States needed the island “for international security”.

The president then turned to Rutte and said “we will talk to you” about the question.

“It's really an appropriate question,” added the president.

Rutte quickly said: “Regarding Grenelande, yes or no, I join the United States, I would leave it outside, for me, this discussion, because I do not want to direct NATO there.”

Denmark, like the United States, was a founding member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, a great international alliance created in 1949 in the heels of the Second World War.

Denmark has checked Greenland, the largest island in the world since the 14th century.

However, Greenland has been autonomous since 1979.

Tuesday, the party of Demokraaitit Pro-Enterprise Central-Droite won a victory over surprise parliamentary elections in Greenland, obtaining 30% of the votes.

The party has progressive independence from Denmark.

On Wednesday, the chief of Democratit, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, criticized Trump's call in recent weeks for Greenland to become an American territory.

“We don't want to be Americans. No, we don't want to be Danish. We want to be Greenlanders, and we want our own independence in the future,” Nielsen told Sky News.
