Kremlin confirms that the United States-Russia while Trump's envoy lands in Moscow

The Kremlin confirmed Thursday that American negotiators were on the way to Moscow for planned discussions while Washington seeks to persuade Russia to accept a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine.

“The negotiators fly, and in fact, contacts are scheduled,” said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, to journalists, without specifying the members of the American delegation.

Earlier, the White House said that US President Donald Trump Steve Witkoff, mediator in Gaza and Ukraine conflicts, is said to be in Moscow this week.

Flight trackers and images of the Russian state media showed that Witkoff's plane landed at Vnukovo in Moscow airport around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

According to the newspaper Kommersant, President Vladimir Putin plans to meet Witkoff later Thursday, following discussions with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.

Peskov also said that Russian presidential aid Yuri Ushakov has spoke with US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz by phone the day before.

Ushakov, asked questions about his conversation with Waltz, seemed to pour cold water on the 30-day cease-fire proposal in a statement to the state media released on Thursday.

“I naturally commented on the agreements concluded concerning the temporary break and describes our position that it is nothing more than a brief respite for the Ukrainian forces – nothing else,” said the Kremlin assistant.

“These types of steps, which simply imitate peace efforts, seem useless to anyone in this situation,” added Ushakov.

Translections occur a few days after Ukraine accepted a 30-day ceasefire on the United States during negotiations in Saudi Arabia. Moscow asked for more details before indicating if he will accept the proposal.

Trump said on Wednesday that he hoped that Putin would accept the truce or face “very bad and devastating” financial sanctions.

Anonymous sources told Reuters on Wednesday that Russia had presented in the United States a list of large requirements similar to its previous ultimatums in Ukraine, Washington and NATO.
