Congress candidate Gavin Rollins offers one-way ticket to the United States
Congress candidate Gavin Rollins made a firm statement on social media regarding the national anthem, triggering a heated debate on Twitter.
Current Clay County Commissioner and Republican candidate for Floridas 3rd Congressional District posted a tweet last Friday, saying: If you don't think running for the national anthem is the right thing to do, then I will personally buy you a ONE WAY country ticket!
In an exclusive interview with News4Jax, Rollins said the tweet was "a creative way to move the conversation forward and he certainly did. He added, that is what he is about acts that the first amendment is to have debates and discussions on these issues.

Pressed, Rollins said he would only buy the ticket if the destination country is Venezuela, a country often targeted by conservatives for socialist policies.
I would ask a lawyer to draft a wording on this, therefore if people want to reach out and are interested in renouncing their citizenship and leaving the country we can talk about buying them this one way ticket to Venezuela added Rollins.
Rollins is running for Floridas 3rd Congressional Seat, held by curator Ted Yoho, who steps down at the end of his term. Fourteen candidates have applied for the seat, including 10 Republicans.
News4Jax contacted the nine opponents of Rollins in the Republican primary to comment on his tweet. Last Sunday, only candidate Bill Engelbrecht responded, echoing Rollins' sentiment, saying: If I think if someone thinks our national anthem is not worth standing up, they should leave.
