UK Coronavirus Live: Meeting Today to Consider New Restrictions on London, Hancock | politics

4.58am EDT04: 58

Q: Should I extend the Brexit conversion?

Starmer says he doesn’t think it’s necessary. He thinks the deal can be made. The government must do what it promises.

Q: What do you want-no extensions or deals?

Starmer says you don’t think you should choose. Transaction is possible.

4.56am EDT04: 56

Starmer says he currently does not support tax increases.

However, prior to the 2024 elections, the Labor Party is set to announce a debt relief plan.

Q: Are you in favor of property tax?

Starmer says it makes no sense to plan a tax so far ahead of the general election.

Writing a proclamation four years early in the midst of an epidemic doesn’t seem very reasonable to me, he says.

4.53am EDT04: 53

Q: Neil Ferguson says action is needed now. Do you support it?

Starmer says regional and country restrictions may be required.

And he said it was a mistake to wait weeks.

According to the Sunday Times (paywall) today, Boris Johnson is meeting with officials today to discuss additional restrictions options. Johnson said he would reject scientists’ requests for an immediate two-state circuit breaker shutdown after being urged by the minister to minimize the number of businesses affected by the new curb. It is still under consideration for the second half of next month.

Interview with Starmer and Marr

Sir Keir Starmer is currently interviewing the BBC’s Andrew Marr. Marr starts with the coronavirus, and Starmer extensively repeats the points previously written by Sky. The test needs to be fixed, the PM apologizes, and the problem needs to be fixed over the summer, but the Labor Party will support the new restrictions.

Question: Do you think the 10,000 fines are too strict?

Starmer says it’s important to take action against the few people who don’t follow the rules.

Q: Will you do it in the neighborhood?

Starmer says the police were right about this. They focused on encouraging people to follow the rules. However, where there are no people, action must be taken.

Q: Does Boris Johnson call you Captain Hindsight?

Starmer said Labor had to sort out tests previously. That’s foresight, he says.

Q: Would you like to reverse the blockade now?

Starmer says he doesn’t want to make a second guess what the PM is doing.

Scottish Health Minister Expresses Concerns About UK Plan To Fine 10,000 People Not Self-Isolation

Scottish Health Minister Jeane Freeman has raised concerns over the impact of the newly announced Covid fine on workers. Freeman said this morning.

We know that so many people are in low-paid jobs, have fragile contracts and are sometimes in really difficult situations. Therefore, you have to beat people in this fight with us. Otherwise, it is not enough to just impose a fine. They are a huge number that very many people can completely go beyond their abilities.

Freeman told BBC Breakfast on Sunday that the Scottish government would soon announce new regulations. Not necessarily today, but by the beginning of next week we will announce new regulations.

Yesterday, the first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, requested a four-country cobra conference over the next 48 hours.

4.38 am EDT04:38

Q: Boris Johnson said the test will be completed within 24 hours. It doesn’t happen.

Hancock says about half of people get results the next day.

(Within 24 hours and the next day are not the same. Now the government is focusing on the latter.)

Q: When do you think an available vaccine will arrive?

Hancock says the Oxford vaccine is still at the forefront.

May arrive this year. However, it is more likely to come early next year.

He says that by the time the cavalry arrives (vaccines, mass screenings and treatments) people must follow the rules of social distancing.

Q: If not, how many people can die?

Hancock says he doesn’t know.

And that’s it. The interview is over.

4:34 AM EDT04:34

Q: Dido Harding said that up to 1 million people can request a test every day. How much are you getting?

Hancock is over 200,000.

Q: Only a fifth?

Hancock says the number of people asking for tests has declined this week.

Q: You said that people are obligated to take the exam. He said that people should bring it when in doubt.

Hancock says it means when people have doubts about their symptoms.

He says 100,000 tests per day will take care of the home. It would be politically easier to give other people these tests, he says.

4.31am EDT04: 31

When asked if the government is considering shutting down additional states, Hancock said it does not rule it out.

4.29 am EDT04:29

Q: The mortality rate is very low. Are you overreacting?

No, says Hancock. He says mortality is a trailing indicator.

He says Britain can be compared to both countries. One gives a warning, the other gives hope.

Spain has seen an increase in the number of cases. At first people said that the mortality rate does not go up like Marr. But now it is.

Belgium took a different approach. He says that as soon as the incident started to increase, it brought restrictions.

Q: It wasn’t very popular…

Hancock says he is not interested in popularity.

Q: How about Sweden?

Hancock says Sweden doesn’t offer a better model. It imposes some rules. And people voluntarily followed strict social distancing measures. However, it still has a much higher death rate than neighboring countries.

4.25am EDT04: 25

Hancock interview with Andrew Marr

Matt Hancock is currently interviewing the BBC’s Andrew Marr.

Marr presses him on whether to report on neighbors who broke the rules. He points out that Boris Johnson ruled this out last week. At first, Hancock emphasized that most people are following the rules, but said he would report someone to the police when pressured.

4.20 am EDT04:20

This is what Matt Hancock told Skys Sophy Ridge on Sunday about the possibility of restrictions in London.

The first line of defense is people’s actions. However, after that, regional closures are needed, and Ive took regional action in several regions of the country where cases are increasing…

I had a discussion with the mayor of London this week. [Sadiq Khan] And the team is at a meeting today to further discuss what will be needed.

In a statement released on Friday, Khan said he was extremely concerned about the acceleration of the new Covid case in London and that it is increasingly likely that new restrictions will be imposed soon.

4.11 am EDT04:11

Q: Do you have any stamina for future battles?

Yes, says Hancock. He says he is incredibly motivated to do the right thing.

He says he can increase the number of tests available for drive-through centers. But that means taking some from the nursing home. He says he wants to do the right thing.

He said he was seeing a second wave in Belgium. However, they essentially brought new restrictions on socialization, which made the second wave under control.

He says we can overcome this until the cavalry comes out in the form of mass tests, vaccines and treatments.

And that’s it. The Hancock interview is over.

4.06am EDT04:06

Hancock says he does not apologize for the performance of the NHS Test and Trace. He defends what the employee has done.

4.00 am EDT04: 00

Hancock said a meeting was held today to consider new restrictions on London.
