What is better? Universal health care or perpetual war? The answer should be simple.
It is tax time and it is crucial that we know how our taxes are spent. More than half (52%) of the $ 1.43 trillion 2020 "discretionary budget" (the portion of the federal budget implemented annually by the President and Congress) will go to the Department of Defense (the Pentagon). It's 738 billion dollars. And the other 21 departments / agencies will have to divide the remaining 48%.
For example:
• Health and social services: $ 90 billion, or 12%
• Ministry of Education: $ 62 billion, or 8% • Housing and community development: $ 56 billion, or 6%
• Energy and the environment: $ 20 billion, or 2%
• Department of Justice: $ 24 billion, or 2%

• $ 21 billion to help families in need
• $ 207 billion cut in student loan programs
All of the above reductions will be transferred to military spending or tax breaks for the wealthy! The clear choice: universal health care or perpetual war?
The United States is the only industrialized country without universal health care. In the United States, annual health spending now stands at $ 11,772 for each man, woman and child, which is also the highest in the industrialized world. Universal health care for everyone here at home would be a big step forward towards equality and justice!
