16 June (Reuters) – Ryanair Holdings Plc (RYA.I) and the owners of three major UK airports said on Wednesday they will sue the UK government over a traffic light system they put in place for international travel.

The low-cost Irish airline and Manchester Airports Group (MAG) will file higher court filings on Thursday for clarification on the transparency of the system, a MAG spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

The UK Transport Department did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment outside business hours.

In April, the UK government proposed a traffic light system in which countries are categorized into red, amber or green categories based on the perceived degree of COVID-19 risk.

Britain removed Portugal from its quarantine-free travel list in early June, leaving fewer than a dozen countries on its ‘green list’, sparking outrage from airlines involved in the battle. read more

Court papers would argue that given the “dramatic” impact of these decisions on the aviation industry, the UK government must clearly explain how it makes its decisions on national classification.

“The current opaque approach to making decisions is undermining consumer confidence in booking summer vacations, making it impossible for airports, airlines and other travel agencies to plan to recover travel abroad,” Reuters said in a statement.

The aviation industry believed the UK was at the forefront of reopening travel as it has one of the fastest vaccine launches in the world.

The UK will provide an update on the list of destinations that do not require quarantine on June 24.

The news was first reported by The Daily Telegraph on Wednesday.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
