Vibrio case reported in Alabama
According to the Mobile County Health Department, Alabama usually reports cases of vibrio associated with water exposure.
MCHD said the exposure occurred in the waters near Gulf Shores. This case is associated with Vibrio parahaemolyticus, which is associated with crustacean consumption. No other information about the patient is published.
Bacteria, known as vibrio, are found in lakes, rivers, coasts and other warm brackish waters, especially from May to October. - If the wound or cut is exposed to seawater, wash it off thoroughly with soap and water.
- If you develop a skin infection, tell your healthcare provider if your skin has come into contact with brackish or salt water.
- When in brackish or salt water, wear clothing and shoes that protect you from cuts and abrasions.

- Thoroughly cook seafood, especially oysters.
- Do not eat raw oysters or other raw shellfish.
- Do not eat shellfish that do not open during cooking.
- Avoid mutual contamination of cooked seafood and other foods with raw seafood and raw seafood juices.
