Coronavirus: COVID-19 vaccine can boost immunity in former SARS patients, studies find
Researchers in Toronto-Singapore have discovered that the mRNA COVID-19 vaccine may boost the immunity of survivors of the original SARS virus. This can be the key to creating a vaccine that works against all similar viruses.

SARS, or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, is a disease caused by the SARS-CoV-1 virus. Between 2002 and 2004, SARS outbreaks reported more than 8,000 cases and nearly 800 deaths worldwide, including 251 cases and 44 deaths in Canada.
SARS-CoV-1 and SARS-CoV-2 viruses share 80% of their DNA. These viruses, and the other viruses investigated in this study, belong to the same subgroup of coronaviruses known as salvecoviruses.
Such vaccines not only provide immunity to future COVID-19 mutants, but also prevent new coronaviruses from jumping over species and causing another pandemic.
