Simcoe Muskoka COVID-19 News: Health Unit Records 300 New Infections and 4 Deaths
The Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit reported multiple new COVID-19 deaths and 300 infections on Wednesday.
Six residents died this week, according to the health unit. Two men aged 45 to 64, two women aged 65 to 79, and two women in their 80s.
Authorities confirmed that three were vaccinated twice and one was boosted.
Four of the dead are associated with outbreaks.
Meanwhile, 31 residents of COVID-19’s Simcomas Coca are being treated in hospitals, including 7 in the ICU.
Starting Wednesday, the health unit has stopped listing new cases by city, stating that “without accurate geographic assignments, municipal level data is no longer possible.”
Authorities said the number of cases would not be a “true reflection of infection in the community” as changes in testing standards would reduce the number of people tested.
Currently, there are 85 active outbreaks in facilities, collective settings, and educational settings such as child care centers, showing the highest number of outbreaks recorded throughout the Simcoe Muskoka pandemic.
