There is nothing unusual in recent earthquakes but Delhi must have a proper disaster management plan
New Delhi, June 7 (PTI) With nearly 13 earthquakes rocking the Delhi-NCR region in two months, there were concerns if it was the precursor to a major earthquake, but experts say there is nothing unusual about this seismic activity. They stressed that although earthquakes are unpredictable, an appropriate disaster management plan must be developed to deal with any emergency. The Delhi-NCR region is very strange with regard to seismic activities. It has many fault lines that generate earthquakes, but it also feels the impact of earthquakes centered around the Hindu Kush mountains in Afghanistan and even in Nepal. Delhi experienced a major earthquake in 1720 with a magnitude of 6.5. The last major earthquake was in the area near Bolandshahr in 1956 measuring 6.7, according to AK Shukla, who was head of the Seismology Center and the Seismological Risk Center of the Meteorology Department of India which was later taken under the newly formed National Seismology Center. Shukla said that the recent earthquakes are not an unusual phenomenon because the Delhi-NCR region has many fault lines such as the Mahendrajdar-Dehradun fault. There are errors in Mathura, Moradabad and Sohna. All the last 13 earthquakes recorded in the Delhi-NCR region were of low to moderate intensity – 12 April – Delhi (3.5); April 13 – Delhi (2.7); April 16 – Delhi (2); May 3 – Delhi (3); May 6 – Faridabad (2.3), May 10 – Delhi (3.4); May 15 – Delhi (2.2), May 28 – Faridabad (2.5); May 29 – Rohtak (4.5 and 2.9); June 1 – Rohtak (1.8 and 3) and June 3 – Faridabad (3.2). Of these 13, the earthquake occurred only in Rohtak above 4 which occurred under the moderate intensity earthquake. CP Rajendran, professor of geodynamics at the Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research in Bengaluru, said that Delhi had not witnessed any earthquake of more than 4.5 magnitude so far. He said there is very little likelihood of a major earthquake in Delhi-NCR, an extremely densely populated area. “Earthquakes are not new to Delhi-NCR because of many fault lines. If one notices the earthquake pattern since the past two and a half months, it has recorded its highest level of 4.5 on May 29 (Rohtak). Since then it has decreased.” We do not have fault lines in Delhi That stretches hundreds of kilometers, like the way we have in the Himalayas and is known for its high seismic activities. There are local fault lines and are bound to remove the pressure caused by earthquakes, ”Rajendran said. Shukla said that due to malfunctions around Delhi, the city could get an earthquake with a strength of 6 to 6.5, but this only shows the capacity of the local system. It does not mean that such an earthquake will happen immediately as there is no scientific technique for predicting earthquakes, “said Shukla, who was part of the team that conducted the seismic micro zone of the city that 30 percent of Delhi is located under the fifth region, while the rest is located under the fourth region According to the map of the total seismic regions of the whole of India, the Bureau of Indian Standards classified the entire country into four major groups – the fifth region (high intensity) to the second region (low density). “The last earthquakes are a warning, but there is no earthquake prediction technology. We need a mitigation plan like structures that can withstand tremors. Delhi also feels tremors when earthquakes occur in the Himalayas. ”Sitaram said that the closest point of storming the main border (MBT) to Delhi is about 200 km,” but there is a possibility of a larger earthquake of magnitude 7. Nothing can be excluded. Nobody could say w said Staram, who was part of the team that reviewed NCS’s efforts to conduct seismic delineation in Delhi. He said Delhi is located on the Indian Ganga belt which contains sediments. This amplifies the movement of the earthquake and hence its effect. “So, if any earthquake occurs in the Himalayas or even Hindu Kush, the effect can be felt in Delhi-NCR. He also mentioned the 2015 Nepal earthquake that he felt across the India-Gangtian belt including Delhi.” He emphasized educating people and taking precautions. “There is an urgent need to prepare the community for an earthquake disaster. Earthquakes do not kill but buildings that kill. Consequently, awareness of earthquake-resistant design and earthquake preparedness is important to society as a whole, and it is extremely important to prepare society for eventuality,” said Sitharam, who is also president of the Indian Seismic Technology Association. J L Gautam, Chief (Operations) of NCS, also stressed the need for appropriate structures that can withstand tremors. “We cannot predict earthquakes, but we can devise an appropriate disaster management plan,” said Gautam. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily.
