obituary of Bruce Philip Ambotter – Cape Cod Times

Bruce Ambuter, son of William and Irma Ambuter, died unexpectedly at Holyoke Hospital on May 23, 2022. His wife, Betsy Ambuter, is survived. his adult child, Ryan Hollins amputee; Quincy’s granddaughter. children of spouses Boran and Asavan Doyon; sons and daughters; Cousins; And longtime partners and friends. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends in August (details to come).

Bruce was raised in Brooklyn, MA, holds engineering degrees from Tufts University, and has lived most of his adult life on Cape Cod. He had a 50-year career in electronics where he pioneered ocean floor seismology design, working first at MIT and then at the USGS. He was a professional electrical and electronics design engineer who founded his own company, Ambuter Associates, which he successfully ran for decades. His design work included ocean antennas used in early storm detection, equipment to reduce rust in oil tanks, and seismic instruments used for earthquake monitoring. He consulted on complex issues of authority and forensic engineering.

Bruce was an accomplished musician (wind instrument) and loved to listen to Sha Na Na and music from the big band era. He can tell you the name of any song from the fifties or sixties after hearing the first few notes. He was a long-distance runner for most of his adult life, and can often be seen running through Monument Beach and surrounding villages. Bruce was also an expert in radio technology and had an impressive radio collection from the early 1920s to early 1950s illustrating the development of this technology.

Bruce and Betsy recently moved to Holyoke, Massachusetts to be closer to their children and grandchildren. His family appreciates the effort Holyoke’s emergency team and hospital staff are putting in to trying to save his life.
