DHSUD is looking to construct up to 930 housing units in the earthquake-stricken Abra District

(File) Several buildings were damaged in the town of Banguid after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Abra on 27 July.

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) said Wednesday that it plans to build up to 930 housing units in Abra in the wake of the 7-magnitude earthquake.

According to the ministry’s statement, three resettlement sites are being planned in the municipalities of Teum, Bocay and Benarubia.

In the same statement, the ministry added that “Al-Abra recorded 264 houses completely destroyed, while 19,165 houses were partially damaged in the municipalities of Tiom, Banguid, Bocay, Bidijan, La Paz and San Quentin.”

DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizzalino Acuzar has already been involved in preliminary talks with undisclosed private developers.

“Now we need a proactive response with a more permanent solution to the damage caused by this disaster. Building shelters must now become a priority. We need help from our own partners for us [to] Akuzar said.

The magnitude 7 earthquake hit Apra and other parts of Luzon last July 27, with the cause of damage to infrastructure estimated to be 593,861827.11 points.

Akuzar, along with other DHSUD officials are due to go to Abra on Thursday to oversee their administration’s response.
