Taiwan donates $200,000 to earthquake-hit city of Apra

MANILA, Philippines – Taiwan on Wednesday donated US$200,000 (11.13 million pesos) to help Abra County recover after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake.

According to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines, TECO representative, Byung Hsu, donated US$200,000 to the Republic of the Philippines during a handover ceremony.

Teko said the donation was made to help those affected by the recent earthquake in North Luzon.

“Taiwan stands by the Philippines and sincerely hopes that the damaged homes will be restored soon and the victims return to their normal lives as soon as possible,” Teko said.

“Taiwan will continue to cooperate with the Philippines in disaster prevention and resilience to climate change,” she added.

Sylvester Bello III, Chairman and Resident Representative of the Manila Economic and Cultural Bureau, accepted the donation on behalf of the Philippine government.

The celebration was attended by Dominic Valera, Governor of Abra.

The National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management previously reported that more than 500,000 people were affected by the earthquake, with over 1.8 billion pesos in damage to infrastructure.
