Geisinger offers COVID-19 boosters for children over 6 months
Danville, Pennsylvania – Following recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration, Geisinger is now offering booster doses of its updated (bivalent) Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to children 6 months and older. I’m here.
Data continue to show the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine, and the latest booster dose will better protect children. As the virus changes and immunity from previous COVID-19 vaccinations weakens, there are more benefits for individuals and public health to have up-to-date vaccination information.
Below is an overview of how your child will receive their new booster.
- Children aged 6 months to 4 years who have never been vaccinated receive a series of three doses, with the third dose containing protection against the new variant.
- Children on series receive a third dose covering the new variant.
- Children who complete a series of three doses can get a booster covering the new variant at least two months after the third dose.
