RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – January cervical health month The Nevada Cancer Coalition predicts that 60 Nevadans will die from the disease this year.
With early detection and prevention, this is an important disease that deserves attention. The Cancer Coalition has voiced cervical cancer, a lesser-discussed disease.
NCC encourages women to understand the best steps they can take to make a difference and save lives. The Pap test and her HPV vaccination are medical advances that make cancer cases rare. The Coalition shared that even with early detection and prevention, only half of Nevada’s young people are vaccinated against her HPV.
Doctors recommend starting Pap testing at age 21. The cells in the cervix are checked for abnormalities. Vaccines are available for him from age 9 and recommended for him from age 11 to age 12.
Cari Herington, Executive Director of the Nevada Cancer Coalition, said:
“Start talking about cervical cancer. We can screen and catch it early. Share this message with your friends. Get a cervical cancer screening if you haven’t already. Also “Get our children and young adults vaccinated against HPV. This is our cancer. It can be prevented,” said Herington.
Sixty percent of cervical cancer diagnoses in our state are in people who live in rural communities or who have less access to healthcare.
