A 2.7-magnitude earthquake strikes the town of Lokabir overnight

A 2.7-magnitude earthquake struck Le Chaber overnight which was confirmed by the British Geological Survey, with reports of buildings shaking as a result.

It happened at 2.25am this morning about four miles southwest of Fort William and has been reported over 120 times.

The intensity of the shaking has been rated as “weak shaking” but it can still be felt by residents of Western Highlands Township and the surrounding areas.

“It felt like a bomb went off,” Louise Morrison, who lives in Fort William, told the press and magazine.

Describing the “very scary experience,” she added: “I was lying in bed awake already because my dog ​​had woken me up maybe 15 minutes earlier.

“It started off like I thought it was thunder, but then it was just a big rumble from the ground up and from all over, through my entire apartment.”

‘I felt the house creak and shake’

Rachel Berry, who also resides in the town, said the quake caused a lamp to fall and cause some photos to stare, as well as to knock pegs from a washing line.

She said, “It woke me up because I was in bed at the time, I thought at first it was thunder and then I felt the creaking and shaking of the house, then a low rumble.”
