‘Like an earthquake’: a three-storey house collapses in Hackney | UK News

A three-storey house collapsed in east London.

Dozens of firefighters, search dogs and a drone team were called to the property on Gloucester Drive, Hackney, on Saturday afternoon.

Social media photos show the back of the property missing, with construction scattered on the grounds, and firefighters assessing the damage from the house next door.

Fortunately, no one was found trapped under the rubble and no injuries were reported.

A 31-year-old local man who did not wish to be named said: “All I heard was a loud sound and the building I live in was shaking as if there was an earthquake. It was very scary.

“When I looked out the window, the whole building had collapsed.”

He said that emergency services arrived at the scene within 10 to 15 minutes.

The London Fire Brigade said around 60 firefighters, five fire engines and three rescue units had been deployed and the situation was under control by 4.44pm.

Metropolitan Police officers were also present and the force said a number of properties had been evacuated.
